Rhode Island became the eighth state in the union to legalize sports gambling in 2018 shortly after the Supreme Court overturned the PASPA. Then, by early spring of 2019, state lawmakers expanded the law further to allow for online and mobile sports betting.
While the online option has yet to launch, there are two brick and mortar sportsbooks up and running in the state.
Statewide Brick and Mortar Sportsbooks
As mentioned, Rhode Island has two brick and mortar sportsbooks in full operation. They are housed in Twin River Casino in Lincoln and the Twin River Tiverton Casino.
This may be the only two options for some time as there appears to be no licensing process as the Lottery oversees the sports gambling industry directly.
Available Betting Apps in Rhode Island
As of this writing, there is only one sports betting app available in the state called Sportsbook Rhode Island. This is run by the state lottery and available for download now.
Easy to use and navigate, Rhode Island Sportsbook is a straightforward online sportsbook with everything players need.
Just as with brick and mortar sportsbooks, there doesn’t seem to be any way for other operators to receive a license in the state. The only competition the Rhode Island Lottery faces in the online market is from the off-shore sportsbooks which are not regulated or popular.
Best Bonuses and Promotions
Unfortunately, there are no bonuses or promotions available via Rhode Island Sportsbook. This is probably due to the fact it is the only online option in the state.
However, the two brick and mortar sportsbooks available due offer some promotions for certain sports and events.
Sports Available for Betting
The three sportsbooks operating in Rhode Island have made the industry standard sports available to their customers. Live betting is also available. The only restrictions in Rhode Island are on in-state college sports as they are not available to wager.
The sports available include:
- Football (NFL and NCAAF)
- Basketball (NBA, WNBA, NCAAM)
- Baseball (MLB and NCAA)
- Hockey (NHL)
- Soccer (MLS, Premier League, World Cup)
- Combat Sports (UFC and Boxing)
- Golf (PGA, LPGA)
- Auto Sports (F-1, NASCAR)
In-person registration is required by law in Rhode Island, and players can use either of the state’s brick and mortar sportsbook to sign-up and fund their online account.
Cash, credit/debit card, and bank transfer can all be used to fund an account.
Legal Betting Age
Anyone over the age of 18 can legally wager on sports in the state of Rhode Island.
