Washington, D.C. Sports Betting Apps

Washington, D.C. quickly joined a number of U.S. states and territories by passing a new sports betting law in December of 2018. The District of Columbia Council approved legislation allowing its lottery to administer legal sports betting within the boundaries of the federal jurisdiction.

Of course, D.C. is not a state, only a city with odd boundaries and plenty of federal law to navigate. Not only that, the entire endeavor has been plagued by controversy, slowing the process even more.

That said, sports gambling is legal in our nation’s capital, although not quite up and running.

Statewide Brick and Mortar Sportsbooks

The language in the D.C. sports betting law does not allow for any actual “sportsbooks” as we see in other states. However, sports gamblers will be able to place in-person wagers at licensed sporting arenas, restaurants, bars, and gambling kiosks.

Available Betting Apps in Washington, D.C.

Online sports gambling is legal in Washington, D.C., although it is not yet available. The city council was hoping to have it up and running via the D.C Lottery in time for the 2019 NFL season, but that date has obviously passed.

Now, they are looking to launch in March of 2020 in time for the Madness of the NCAA Basketball Tournament.

As for now, it looks as if the D.C. Lottery will be the only sports betting app in operation once it launches. That said, there are other platforms eager for the opportunity to set up shop in the capital and may very well be awarded licenses to do so.

Best Bonuses and Promotions

We are not expecting many bonuses or promotions in the Washington D.C. sports betting industry. Since the D.C. Lottery is running the show, the lack of competition between sportsbooks won’t bring many bonuses or promotions.

Sports Available for Betting

Industry-standard sports available for betting are expected in D.C., and there are also no restrictions on college sports. The sports should include:

  • Football (NFL and NCAAF)
  • Basketball (NBA, WNBA, NCAAM)
  • Baseball (MLB and NCAA)
  • Hockey (NHL)
  • Soccer (MLS, Premier League, World Cup)
  • Combat Sports (UFC and Boxing)
  • Golf (PGA, LPGA)
  • Auto Sports (F-1, NASCAR)
  • Tennis

Payment Options

While funding the online sports betting app will be very similar to what we have already seen, in-person payment options in Washington D.C. will be somewhat different compared to other states. This is because there are no brick and mortar sportsbooks available.

In-person sports betting should be limited as kiosks will most often be used to place wagers in licensed facilities. Cash, credit/debit cards, and PayNearMe are the logical options.

Legal Betting Age

Adults over the age of 18 can legally wager on sports in Washington, D.C.

Tennessee Sports Betting Apps

Legal sports betting will soon be alive and well in the state of Tennessee sometime in 2020. The law actually only allows for betting online and on mobile apps as there will be no physical sportsbook locations.

The law is designed to regulate the online sports betting market with high taxes and fees for the operators. The Tennessee state legislature approved a sports betting bill April 30 and, while there is no official launch date, action is expected in the spring of 2020.

Statewide Brick and Mortar Sportsbooks

As mentioned, Tennessee has decided to be a bit different than most states regulating a sports betting market by not allowing any brick and mortar sportsbooks to operate in the state.

Tennessee will be strictly limited to online sports betting.

Available Betting Apps in Tennessee

Of course, as of today, there are no legal online sports betting apps operating in the state of Tennessee. This is sure to change as, per Tennessee law, sportsbooks will only be able to operate online.

Despite the high tax rate Tennessee will require of its online operators, many companies remain interested in doing business in The Volunteer State.

In fact, the following platforms have already indicated strong interest in access to the Tennessee market.

  • DraftKings Sportsbook
  • FanDuel Sportsbook
  • FoxBet
  • William Hill
  • Bet365
  • Caesars

Best Bonuses and Promotions

It remains to be seen just what the bonuses and promotions of the legal sports betting apps will look like. However, there should be plenty of competition between the operators, and this is always helpful for bonuses and promotions, especially with online sportsbooks.

Sports Available for Betting

Industry-standard sports available for betting are expected in Tennessee sportsbooks, and there are no restrictions either. College football is extremely popular in the state and should grab much of the sportsbooks’ focus.

The sports should include:

  • Football (NFL and NCAAF)
  • Basketball (NBA, WNBA, NCAAM)
  • Baseball (MLB and NCAA)
  • Hockey (NHL)
  • Soccer (MLS, Premier League, World Cup)
  • Combat Sports (UFC and Boxing)
  • Golf (PGA, LPGA)
  • Auto Sports (F-1, NASCAR)
  • Tennis

Payment Options

The specifics of just what the payment options for Tennessee sportsbooks remain to be seen. However, since all of the sportsbooks will only be available online, there are many options such as debit/credit cards, bank transfers, PayPal, PayNearMe, and Skrill.

Legal Betting Age

The legal sports gambling age in Tennessee will be 21 and over.

Rhode Island Sports Betting Apps

Rhode Island became the eighth state in the union to legalize sports gambling in 2018 shortly after the Supreme Court overturned the PASPA. Then, by early spring of 2019, state lawmakers expanded the law further to allow for online and mobile sports betting.

While the online option has yet to launch, there are two brick and mortar sportsbooks up and running in the state.

Statewide Brick and Mortar Sportsbooks

As mentioned, Rhode Island has two brick and mortar sportsbooks in full operation. They are housed in Twin River Casino in Lincoln and the Twin River Tiverton Casino.

This may be the only two options for some time as there appears to be no licensing process as the Lottery oversees the sports gambling industry directly.

Available Betting Apps in Rhode Island

As of this writing, there is only one sports betting app available in the state called Sportsbook Rhode Island. This is run by the state lottery and available for download now.

Easy to use and navigate, Rhode Island Sportsbook is a straightforward online sportsbook with everything players need.

Just as with brick and mortar sportsbooks, there doesn’t seem to be any way for other operators to receive a license in the state. The only competition the Rhode Island Lottery faces in the online market is from the off-shore sportsbooks which are not regulated or popular.

Best Bonuses and Promotions

Unfortunately, there are no bonuses or promotions available via Rhode Island Sportsbook. This is probably due to the fact it is the only online option in the state.

However, the two brick and mortar sportsbooks available due offer some promotions for certain sports and events.

Sports Available for Betting

The three sportsbooks operating in Rhode Island have made the industry standard sports available to their customers. Live betting is also available. The only restrictions in Rhode Island are on in-state college sports as they are not available to wager.

The sports available include:

  • Football (NFL and NCAAF)
  • Basketball (NBA, WNBA, NCAAM)
  • Baseball (MLB and NCAA)
  • Hockey (NHL)
  • Soccer (MLS, Premier League, World Cup)
  • Combat Sports (UFC and Boxing)
  • Golf (PGA, LPGA)
  • Auto Sports (F-1, NASCAR)
  • Tennis

Payment Options

In-person registration is required by law in Rhode Island, and players can use either of the state’s brick and mortar sportsbook to sign-up and fund their online account.

Cash, credit/debit card, and bank transfer can all be used to fund an account.

Legal Betting Age

Anyone over the age of 18 can legally wager on sports in the state of Rhode Island.

Pennsylvania Sports Betting Apps

Right along with New Jersey and West Virginia, you can count Pennsylvania as one of the most aggressive states in the union when it comes to establishing their legal sports gambling industry.

The Keystone state now has six sports betting apps up and running as well as eight brick and mortar sportsbooks accepting wagers, all since May of 2018.

Statewide Brick and Mortar Sportsbooks

Within 18 months of the state bill passing, there are seven brick and mortar casinos up and running throughout the state with three more coming in 2020.

  • William Hill Hollywood
  • Sugarhouse
  • Rivers
  • Parx
  • Harrah’s Philadelphia
  • FanDuel Valley Forge
  • Valley Forge Race and Sportsbook
  • Mohegan Sun Pocono (Coming 2020)
  • BetStars Mount Airy (Coming 2020)
  • Presque Isle Downs (Coming 2020)

Available Betting Apps in PA 2020

There are currently five legal sports betting apps available throughout Pennsylvania.

  • FanDuel Sportsbook PA
  • UniBet
  • SugarHouse Sportsbook PA
  • Rivers Sportsbook
  • Fox Bet

As for now, there doesn’t seem to be any more sports betting apps coming online in the near future. Of course, this is likely to change as the industry continues to grow.

Best Bonuses and Promotions

As you can imagine, with plenty of competition for your gambling dollar, sportsbooks will do all they can to separate themselves from the rest. Bonuses and promotions are a great way to do this and here are a few of the standouts in Pennsylvanian sports betting apps

  • FanDuel – $500 Match Bet
  • SugarHouse- 100% Match Up to $250
  • Rivers Sportsbook – 100% Match Up to $250
  • Fox Bet – $20 Free Bet for Sign Up

Sports Available for Betting

Industry-standard sports available for betting are available in Pennsylvania sportsbooks as there are no state restrictions on offerings. These include:

  • Football (NFL and NCAAF)
  • Basketball (NBA, WNBA, NCAAM)
  • Baseball (MLB and NCAA)
  • Hockey (NHL)
  • Soccer (MLS, Premier League, World Cup)
  • Combat Sports (UFC and Boxing)
  • Golf (PGA, LPGA)
  • Auto Sports (F-1, NASCAR)
  • Tennis

Payment Options

With so many sportsbook options available in Pennsylvania, the payment options available in the state will vary from sportsbook to sportsbook, whether online or brick and mortar.

That said, what we’ve seen thus far is better than industry standard: Cash, debit cards, credit cards, bank transfers, PayPal, Skrill, PayNearMe, or specialty prepaid cards are all available at most of the sportsbooks in the state, online or on land.

Legal Betting Age

Anyone over the age of 21 can legally wager on sports in the state of Pennsylvania.

Oregon Sports Betting Apps

Of all the states in the union looking to legalize and regulate sports gambling, Oregon may have taken the simplest course of action. Of course, this simplicity also comes with some limitations. An online sportsbook is available in the state.

However, it is run by the state lottery. Also, although there are dozens of casinos operating in the state, only one has opened a sportsbook.

Furthermore, college sports are completely banned from wagering in the state. Yes, the industry is up and running, but it seems to have come at a cost.

Statewide Brick and Mortar Sportsbooks

As mentioned, there is only one brick and mortar sportsbook operating in the state, The Chinook Winds Casino in Lincoln City is your only option for now.

However, when the state legalized sports betting, they essentially left it up to the Tribal Casinos to decide the details. There are nine other Tribal Casinos in Oregon that may join in.

Available Betting Apps in Oregon

The only legal sports betting app available in Oregon is via the state lottery. Interestingly, there are thousands of places offering lottery games in the state, and many foresee these facilities offering sports bets in the future as well.

Do not look for more sports betting apps anytime soon in Oregon as the state has decided not to offer any competing online licenses.

Best Bonuses and Promotions

Obviously, with such limited avenues for sports betting, there isn’t much reason for any bonuses or promotions. Especially from the state lottery.

However, the Chinook Winds Casino has promotions all the time in the form of raffles and giveaways.

Sports Available for Betting

As mentioned, college sports are completely out in Oregon. This leaves only professional endeavors available for wager. That said, there are still plenty available such as:

  • Football (NFL Only)
  • Basketball (NBA, WNBA)
  • Baseball (MLB)
  • Hockey (NHL)
  • Soccer (MLS, Premier League, World Cup)
  • Combat Sports (UFC and Boxing)
  • Golf (PGA, LPGA)
  • Auto Sports (F-1, NASCAR)
  • Tennis

Payment Options

The payment options at the Chinook Winds Casino are very straightforward and industry-standard as cash, debit card, credit card and bank transfer can all be used. Funding your online account is just as easy as it also accepts bank transfers and debit/credit card payments.

Legal Betting Age

Anyone in the state of Oregan who is also 21 years of age and older will be able to legally wager on sports in a brick and mortar sportsbook or via the Lottery app.

North Carolina Sports Betting Apps

Legislation legalizing and regulating a legal sports gambling market in the state of North Carolina was passed in April of 2019. However, there hasn’t been much more movement forward as the state senate has decided to research the subject more thoroughly.

In fact, a final report on the matter is not due until April of 2020. So, while sports betting is now legal in North Carolina, it will be some time before we know exactly what it will look like.

Statewide Brick and Mortar Sportsbooks

Currently, there are two Tribal Casinos under consideration to host sportsbooks. Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort and Harrah’s Cherokee Valley River Casino and Hotel are both located in the western part of the state.

As mentioned, there is no launch date as of yet, but insiders say to expect a fully functional brick and mortar sportsbook in one or both of these establishments by fall of 2020.

Available Betting Apps in North Carolina

There are no legal sports betting apps currently available in the state of North Carolina. Many sports bettors are forced to use the off-shore, unregulated sportsbooks when looking to place a wager online.

Although the legislation has been passed, there are still many questions to resolve. This legislation is all-encompassing too. Covering just about every form of gambling you can think of.

This, of course, does not bode well for any form of online gambling being available in the state.

Best Bonuses and Promotions

Obviously, there is nothing to report here as of yet. Both Harrah’s casinos under consideration for sportsbooks do offer their own promotions. However, these are usually in the form of raffles and drawings.

Sports Available for Betting

It is also anyone’s guess as to what sports will be available in North Carolina sportsbooks. One interesting subject is the availability of college sports teams located in the state.

North Carolina is ground zero for ACC basketball, and many are eager to see if they will be able to wager on next year’s Duke-North Carolina game.

Payment Options

The payment options available in North Carolina casinos are pretty standard across the board. Cash, debit cards, credit cards, bank transfers, or specialty prepaid cards are available via the casino of your choice.

Legal Betting Age

The legal gambling age in North Carolina is 21 and over, and we expect this to carry over to sports betting as well.

New York Sports Betting Apps

Legal sports gambling in the state of New York has had plenty of movement since the PASPA was overturned. However, there have been as many moves backward as forwards for The Empire State, and they are still working to create a fully-realized industry.

There are brick and mortar sportsbooks up and running in the state. However, the availability of sports betting apps remains a no-go in the state.

Statewide Brick and Mortar Sportsbooks

As for now, only pre-existing casinos have been able to open sportsbooks. This looks to change in the near future as other venues such as horse tracks will be allowed to apply for licenses.

  • Rivers Sportsbook Schenectady
  • FanDuel Sportsbook Tioga Downs
  • DraftKings Sportsbook del Lago Resort Casino
  • Turning Stone Syracuse
  • Point Place Bridgepoint
  • Yellow Brick Road Casino Chittenango
  • Resorts World Catskills Monticello
  • Akwesasne Mohawk Casino

Available Betting Apps in New York State

As mentioned, there are no legal sports betting apps available in New York state. The only type of online gambling sports bettors can find is of the off-shore, unregulated variety.

Despite multiple setbacks in the statehouse concerning legal online sports gambling, it is safe to say there will be sports betting apps in the near future. The state has shown the willingness to regulate a sports betting market.

Plus, seeing the success of neighboring states such as New Jersey and Pennsylvania only forces the issue forward.

Best Bonuses and Promotions

Due to a lack of online sportsbooks, any bonuses and promotions found in New York state will vary from sportsbook to sportsbook and be limited in scope.

Sports Available for Betting

The sports available to bet at New York state sportsbooks will vary slightly from sportsbook to sportsbook. However, look for there to be plenty of the popular American sports and leagues available as well as some international sports as well.

  • Football (NFL and NCAAF)
  • Basketball (NBA, WNBA, NCAAM)
  • Baseball (MLB and NCAA)
  • Hockey (NHL)
  • Soccer (MLS, Premier League, World Cup)
  • Combat Sports (UFC and Boxing)
  • Golf (PGA, LPGA)
  • Auto Sports (F-1, NASCAR)
  • Tennis

Payment Options

Of course, payment options will vary from site to site and sportsbook to sportsbook. However, what we’ve seen thus far is industry standard.

Along with cash, debit, and credit cards, players can also use bank transfers or specialty prepaid cards available via the sportsbook of choice.

Legal Betting Age

You must be 21 years of age or over to gamble on sports in New York state.
